Full professional background

I trained at Tavistock Relationships, where I completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Individual and Couple Psychodynamic Psychotherapy and a Postgraduate Diploma in Psychosexual Therapy.
I am registered with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the College of Sexual and Relationship Therapists (COSRT), and I adhere to the professional and ethical standards set by both bodies.

In addition, I have undertaken specialist integrative and trauma-informed training in working with Compulsive Sexual Behaviours at the Clinical Institute of Sexology (CICS).

I have also worked in the NHS as a Psychosexual Therapist at the St Pancras Sexual Problems Clinic (North London NHS Foundation Trust), where I gained experience supporting clients with a range of sexual concerns.

I hold an MSc in Career Management and Counselling from Birkbeck, University of London, and have extensive experience within the Higher Education sector. I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, recognising my experience in teaching, learning, and assessment.

Alongside my clinical work, I have gained professional experience within Government, both in the Civil Service and the Greater London Authority, as well as working for a global energy company.

The breadth of perspectives I have developed through these roles continues to inform my practice, particularly in my commitment to working with cultural sensitivity and an awareness of different contexts.

Approach and philosophy
Relationship as the focus

Working together to think about your relationship - a shared endeavour

My approach is to work with your relationship as a whole, rather than treating couple therapy as ‘individual therapy×2’.

This creates a space where you can step back from patterns of blame or frustration, and begin to think together about what is happening between you. Over time, this can support the development of a more shared sense of understanding, accountability, and collaboration within your relationship.

My experience has shown that when the relationship itself becomes the focus, new ways of relating can begin to emerge.

You in the wider context of your life

Taking an evidence based, cross-disciplinary approach

My work is informed by rigorous postgraduate training in psychotherapy, psychosexual therapy, and coaching.

These different disciplines inform one another, allowing me to think with you about the wider context of your life—your relationships, work, family, and connection to your body.

This cross-disciplinary, holistic approach creates an opportunity to connect the dots across different areas of experience, helping to build a more coherent and integrated understanding.

Holding a space for hopefulness about the possibility for change

Deciding to seek support with relationships or intimacy can feel like a significant and sometimes daunting step. I recognise the courage this can take, and I approach this work with care and respect.

I aim to offer a space that is both thoughtful and engaged, one that holds the seriousness of what you are bringing, while also maintaining a sense of hopefulness about the possibility for change.

My approach is flexible and responsive, shaped by the particular experiences and needs you bring, and grounded in a commitment to working collaboratively towards something that feels more manageable, meaningful, and alive.

about rachel power

I’ve always been interested in the different aspects of ourselves that we bring into relationships

Whether with family, partners, friends, or colleagues, and in how these parts of who we are are shaped both by past experiences and by our hopes for the future.

What we feel, what we need, and how we relate to others

One of the ideas that informs my work is congruence. The term is used in both psychology and geometry. In geometry, congruence refers to elements that correspond and fit together. In human terms, it speaks to the relationship between what we feel, what we need, and how we relate to others.

Therapy is about creating alignment

When there is a gap between these things, something can begin to feel unsettled or difficult. Therapy offers a space to explore these experiences and to develop a greater sense of alignment and understanding, both within ourselves and in our relationships.
